David Cloyd Stevens, 85, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at his home.

A graduate of Virginia Tech he served in World War II as a Navy Pilot in the South Pacific, and was an avid golfer. Born in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Robert G. and Mary Cloyd Stevens.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jessee Stevens; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra S. and Jack B. Johnson of Christiansburg, Elizabeth S. and James W. Pearson of Greensboro, N.C., and Jeanie S. and Benny Daigre of Radford, Va.; five grandchildren, Dr. Jack B. Johnson, Jr. and wife, Anne, of Buena Vista, Va., Catherine J. Bush and husband, Artie Bush, of Roanoke, Va., David S. Johnson of Washington, D.C., Christopher A. Richardson, and Robert S. Richardson of Chicago, Ill.; three greatgrandchildren; brother, Robert G. Stevens, Jr.; sisters, Elizabeth A. Stevens and Mary Langhorn Stevens Phillips ,all of Radford, Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 125 Arrowhead Trail, Christiansburg, Va. 24073 or New Dublin Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 922, Dublin, Va. 24084.

A family memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at New Dublin Presbyterian Church, which was established by his Cloyd ancestors in 1769.
