John D. Stamps, 73, of Floyd, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Mr. Stamps served his country for 23 years in the Navy with duty in Korea and Vietnam.

After his retirement from the Navy, he worked in security with the Tennessee Valley Authority.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Stamps, of Floyd; two sisters and brothers-in-law, June and Joe Marlow, of Harriman, Tenn., and Judy and Paul Sutherland, of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother-in-law and spouse, Wesley and Eva Goss, of Rockwood, Tenn.; sister-in-law and spouse, Betty and George Bennett, of Alexandria, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Richard Gregory officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Floyd County VFW Post #7854 and Floyd American Legion Post #127.

Friends may call at Gardner Funeral Home after 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 3008, where the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to Floyd United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd, Va.
