Stafford, Pamela Duncan
Pamela Jeanne Stafford (nee Duncan), age 74 cradled in the bosom of Christ, passed away peacefully at her home in Ripplemead, VA on Saturday, June 3, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving husband, John; and serenaded with song, her favorites as sung by her daughters, Amy and Krista; and her best friend, Barbara Robertson.
She was born in Clincho, Virginia on June 24, 1948. Pam’s childhood included homes in several southern states. The Duncans relocated to Ripplemead, Virginia when Pam was fourteen. She was a graduate of the Giles High School Class of 1966. After graduation, Pam was a professor’s secretary at Virginia Tech. She would go on to have a career with the US Postal Service in both the Ripplemead and Pearisburg Branches.
Pam and her husband John owned and operated a furniture and home décor store; Welcome Home Furnishings in Christiansburg, VA for nearly two decades. At Welcome Home, Pam’s talent and passion for interior design were showcased with each ensemble she put together on the showroom floor and every piece she chose to carry in the store.
Pam was a gifted singer. She loved music, singing, dancing, and collecting records. She also loved sports (both playing and watching). She truly enjoyed watching college football and basketball. Throughout her adulthood, Pam competed playing volleyball, softball, and bowling; each as a member of local women’s leagues. Spanning many years, her bowling teams enjoyed numerous successes in high stakes tournaments. Inherited from her mother, Pam had a green thumb, her garden creations were truly magical.
Pam is survived by her husband of 33 years, John; daughters Amy Baker Mutter (Randy) of Atlanta, GA, and Krista Baker of Los Angeles, CA; step-son, Mike Stafford (Stephanie) of Dublin, VA; grandchildren, Cameron Mutter (Annie) of Atlanta, Georgia; Tristan Mutter of Atlanta, Georgia, Caroline Mutter of Atlanta, Georgia; brother, Robert Duncan of Nashville, Tennessee; sister, Cheryl Duncan of Ripplemead, VA; step-grandchildren, Kelly Hilton (Aubry) of Narrows, VA, Paige Vandergrift (Daniel) of Narrows, VA; step-great-grandchildren, Jaden Hilton and Gunnar Hilton of Narrows, VA, and Xander and Kendrick Vandergrift of Narrows, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lotis Hillman Duncan of Knoxville, TN; granddaughter Sarah Grace Mutter of Atlanta, Georgia; great grandson Christopher Hart Mutter of Atlanta, Georgia; and step-daughter, Lisa Stafford Martin of Narrows, VA.
A funeral service will be conducted to honor Pam on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jay Smith officiating. Funeral services will conclude in Birchlawn Burial Park where she will be laid to rest. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel.
