Stafford, Gary Dean

Gary Dean Stafford, 73, of the Trigg Community, Pearisburg, departed this life Wednesday morning, June 27, 2012, at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. Born at Trigg on August 19, 1938, he was a son of the late Martin L. and Glenna Johnston Stafford. He graduated from Eggleston High School in 1956, served in the United States Air Force, worked for Friden and Singer Companies repairing business machines in the Lynchburg-Roanoke areas for nearly 20 years, and retired from Virginia Tech with 23 years service as electrical engineer In the Aerospace and Ocean Engineering Departments. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Kaye S. Raynes. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Gay Wray Stafford; two stepchildren Karen Wray Grady and Michael Wray; a stepgrandson Ben Grady; and his sisters Phyllis Gordon, of Trigg and Carole Ann Eaton, of Pearisburg. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Gary Poff officiating. Entombment will follow in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to “The Wounded Warriors”.
