Allen Tipton St.Clair, formerly of Christiansburg, Va., died on December 20, 2007. All who knew and loved him will agree, there is no way to reduce Allen St.Clair to a column of text, but as full of love and life as he was, he was no match for cancer.

On December 20, 2007, with his wife, Phyllis, by his side, Allen died at their home in Charlotte, N.C. Born July 12, 1944 in Christiansburg, Va., to Geneva and Allen St.Clair Sr., he graduated from nearby Virginia Tech to begin a career as an auditor with Dan River Mills in Danville, Va.

After an impressive but unsuccessful run for Congress, he moved to Charlotte in 1971 to be comptroller for the Ervin Company and later an auditor for First Union. Receiving a Real Estate Broker’s license in 1972, he taught real estate classes before leaving the bank to open Carolina First Realtors with friend, Ray Kluth.

A respected leader in both the local and state Realtor associations, Allen held numerous positions of honor and received many awards, including President of the Charlotte Association, Realtor of the Year and a National Presidential Task Force appointment. Known for his knowledge, professionalism, integrity and sense of fairness to both peers and public. Allen is loved by all who have come to know his wit, intelligence, warmth, compassion and rich sense of humor.

Preceded in death by his father, Allen is survived by a family that extends coast to coast. In addition to his wife, Phyllis Furr St.Clair, he is survived by his mother, Geneva St. Clair; and sisters, Barbara Lancaster, Wanda Brown (Bill), Brenda Montgomery (Kenny) of Virginia; a brother, Roger St.Clair (Terri) of Matthews; children, David St.Clair (Michelle), Angela St.Clair, Karyn Furr (Greg Burke) of Charlotte and Kathy Furr (Wade Naveja) and Tony Furr (Michelle) of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Corey St.Clair, Nick St.Clair, Monica McLean, Aidan Naveja, RyLee Furr, Rebekah Furr, Abigail Furr, and Camryn Burke will miss their adored Tippy, as will grieving friends all over the world.

A celebration of the life of Allen Tipton St.Clair will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2007, at the Church of God of Prophecy on Sixth and Taylor in Radford, Va. Those wishing to honor him may contribute in his name to Charlotte Emergency Housing or Homes4NC. Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 704-332-7133, are serving Allen’s family.
