Augustus Courtland (A.C.) Spotts III, 79, of 6442 Montague Road, Dublin, passed away Monday morning, February 5, 2007 at his home.

Born September 1, 1927 in Dublin, he was the son of the late Augustus Courtland Spotts, Jr. and Mary Christine Tyree Spotts. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and the children’s mother, Margaret Ann Carneal Spotts.

He was a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute where in later years he served on the Board of Visitors. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served in World War II and also served in Korea with the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant.

Mr. Spotts was a long time member of the New Dublin Presbyterian Church. He was a real estate developer in Richmond and owned Springfield Farms in Dublin where he was a sheep and cattle farmer.

Surviving are his wife, JoAnn Kinzer Spotts, Dublin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Courtland and Kathy Spotts, Richmond, Meade A. and Cheryl Spotts, Richmond; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Donald “Donnie” and Roland Curtis Gilbert, Lakewood, Ohio, Rose Cameron “Cammie” and Robert Kenneth Griffin, Jr., Wrightsville Beach, N.C.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, 3 p.m. at New Dublin Presbyterian Church, Dublin with the Rev. Jean Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the New Dublin Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the hour of service at the church.
