Mary Devota, (Dodie) Spicer, one of “God’s special children”, went to sleep April 4, 2006 at Montgomery Regional Hospital and entered into eternal rest.

“Dodie” was born on February 10, 1941 to Robert Allen and Lois Dudley Spicer. She was preceded in death by her father and a nephew, Michael John Dickerson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother and constant companion, Lois Dudley Spicer of Christiansburg; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Eunice and Julius Dickerson of Floyd and Bobby and Charlotte Cromer of Christiansburg; two nieces, Mary Caitlin Dickerson and Leah Catherine Dickerson of Floyd; and an aunt, Eleanor Dudley of Williamsburg. Several cousins and many friends also survive.

Despite her mental handicap, Dodie had a quick-wit and was an excellent mother to her numerous stuffed animals including Kermit, Tippy and Moose.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 9, 2006 from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Horne Funeral Home and on Monday one hour prior to the service. A homegoing service and celebration of Dodie’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2006 at The Horne Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be conducted by Rev. Christopher Yopp, Rev. Bobby Sutphin, Pastor James Burke and Rev. Jim Bayne. Interment will follow in the Belmont Cemetery.
