Sparks, Leonard Elmer

Leonard Elmer Sparks, 68, of Narrows, Va., went home to be with the Lord, at home surrounded by his loving wife and family Sunday, August 22, 2010. Born February 6, 1942, in Giles County, Va., he was the son of the late Claude Sutherland and Imogene Opal Lee Conley Sparks. Leonard served with the United States 82nd Airborne Division, was a retiree of the Celanese Corp. with 35 years of service, was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church, Ripplemeade, Va., and he loved to play golf. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald David Sparks. Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Bobbie Harris Sparks; one son, Donald Sparks and wife, Michelle, of Troutman, N.C.; one daughter, Darlene Lambert, of Blue Ridge, Va.; two stepdaughters, Cheryl and husband, Mike Wilburn, of Pearisburg, Va., and Leigh Ann and husband, David Bowers, of Pearisburg, Va.; two brothers, Danny Sparks and wife, Carolyn, of Narrows, and Rickey Sparks and wife Debbie, of Pembroke, Va.; four sisters, Gail Miller and husband, Albert, of Rocky Gap, Va., Drema Tolley and husband, Joe, of Narrows, Va., Deborah Sikole and husband, David, of Narrows, Va., and Della Raines, of Princeton; four grandchildren, Aaron and Kaitlyn Sparks, Jason Stafford and Tanner Lambert; four stepgrandchildren, Casey Wilburn, Brandon Cole, Zack and Seth Simpson. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Peterstown Cemetery, Rich Creek, Va., with his golf buddies serving as pallbearers. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2010, at the funeral home.
