Jack Claude Sparks, 83, of Pembroke, Va., passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. He was born in Erwin, Tenn., on April 30, 1926, to the late Claude Rex and Virginia Belle Hensley Sparks. He was also preceded in death by two brothers.

Mr. Sparks was a retired cattle farmer and retired from C & P Telephone Company after 37 years of service. He attended Virginia Tech where he played football and served his country in the United States Navy. He was a lifelong Mason and a member of VFW Post #500 in Narrows. He was an avid woodworker.

He is survived by his children, Constance Marie Love and husband, Johnny ,of Blacksburg, Va., Donald S. Sparks and wife, Pamela, of Bedford, Va., and Deborah Anne Sparks, of Christiansburg, Va.; five grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; brother, Ivory H. Sparks and wife, Mary, of Ashville, N.C.; sister, Jean Sparks, of Wise, Idaho; special friend, Lois Turner; and his faithful companion, “Dee Dee.”

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2009, from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Price officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 4, 2009, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home.
