garden-of-promiseDeborah Spangler Sparks, 61 of Pembroke went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 19th, 2014. She was born in Pearisburg on September 3rd, 1952, and was the daughter of the late Calvin D. “Tom” and Ivalene Dalton Spangler. A lifelong dog lover, Debbie rescued numerous dogs in Giles County and cared for many of them personally. She was a faithful member of Riverview Baptist Church, where she served as a choir member. In previous years, she also served as a youth leader in other churches in Giles County. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Debbie will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of nearly 40 years, Rick Sparks; two sons, Rick Sparks, Jr. and wife Christy of Christiansburg, Scott Sparks and wife Ashley of Tucson, Arizona; a granddaughter, Emma Sparks; and a grandson, Andrew Sparks; a brother, Tom and Phyllis Spangler of Narrows; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 22nd, 2014 at 2:30 PM at Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Riverview Baptist Church Friday from 6 to 8 PM.
