Spangler, Robert Jackson
Robert Jackson Spangler, 70, of Shawsville, Va., died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at his home. Mr. Spangler retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 24 years of service.
The son to the late George Daniel and Agnes Jeanette Spangler, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Tommy Spangler, Ralph Spangler and Arnold Spangler.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty R. Spangler; daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Terry Slusher of Floyd; son, Kenny Spangler of Christiansburg; three grandchildren, Jessica Nicole Spangler of Shawsville, Ashley Kay Slusher of Floyd and Kate Renee Spangler; brothers, George Daniel Spangler, Jr. and Ray Spangler, all of Shawsville. He is also survived by his sisters and brother-in-law, Ruby Bell, Edith and Bill Yates, all of Shawsville, Marie Shark of Christiansburg and Shirley and Franklin Barlow of Bassett. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. Funeral services will be held in The Horne Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 with Pastor John Collins and the Rev. Virgil McHone officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemetery, Shawsville.
