Charles B. Spangler Jr., 85 of Floyd, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday July 1, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents; Charles B. Spangler Sr. and Mary Y. Spangler.

Charles is survived by his wife of 60 years; Barbara Thomas Spangler, daughter and son-in-law; Sara S. Dulaney and Glenn, brother and sister-in-law; M. Jack and Bessie Spangler, sister; Marie Spangler; special nephew; Richard W. Thomas Jr. and wife Sheila and children, brother’s-in-law; Rodney C. Thomas and Richard W. Thomas Sr. and wife Carolyn, numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles retired from Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company and was a life time member of the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department. Charles was a Charter member of the Floyd Rescue Squad. He was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Floyd for 58 years where he served as Elder and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of The American Legion Post # 127 and Honor Guard and served as Commander for 3 years. He served as President of Board of Directors at Great Oaks Country Club. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Charles enjoyed music, traveling, woodworking and making musical instruments.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday July 3, 2014 at The Presbyterian Church of Floyd with Rev. Tupper Garden officiating. Interment to follow at Jacksonville cemetery with Military Rites by the Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post # 127. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday July 2, 2014 at Maberry Funeral Home.
