James (Pops) Eldridge Spangler, 84 of Pembroke, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 10, 2020. Pops was born on November 19, 1935 in Giles Co., VA and was a son of the late Kyle Otis Spangler and Eva Wilson Spangler. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Spangler Neal and three brothers.

Pops was a Army strong Korean War Veteran, a man of the outdoors who loved hunting, fishing and loved being on the New River. He was a man who loved helping others and would give you the shirt off his back. He loved the company of his family and his many friends.

He is survived by one daughter, Malinda S. Hodge (Richard) of Pembroke, four grandchildren, Jerry Martin (Brian), Melissa Martin (Chad), Tiffanie Handy (Kyle) and Samantha Neal and four great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Willow, Branson and Gatlin, three furry grandchildren, Pickles, Macy and Moonpie and a few very special friends, Mano Bergey, Mike and Connie Wells and Ted and Pam Newsome.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 2pm at the Givens – Riffe Funeral Chapel in Narrows with Tony Robertson officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour before the service from 1 – 2pm. We will be observing COVID-19 precautions.
