Ivalene Dalton Spangler, 88, of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 11, 2012, at her home. She was born in Carroll County, October 11, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Jayhue and Lona Goad Dalton. In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Ivalene will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 65 years, Calvin D. (Tom) Spangler Sr.; a son, Calvin D. (Tom) Spangler Jr. and wife, Phyllis, of Narrows; a daughter, Deborah Sparks and husband, Rick, of Pembroke; five grandchildren, Christina Trent and husband, Robert, of Narrows, Larry Spangler and fiance, Leann Williams, of Roanoke, Laura West and husband, Adam, of Salem, Rick Sparks Jr. and wife, Christy, of Christiansburg, Scott Sparks, of Green Valley, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren, Lindsey Trent, Grace Trent, Michah West, Emma Sparks, Andrew Sparks; a sister, Rheda D. Wheeler, of Narrows; nieces, nephews, and friends; including special caregivers, Carilion Hospice, Dr. John Boone and staff; and her special canine companion, Skyler.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Narrows. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church Monday from noon until just prior to the service.
