David Brent Spangler, 75, of Pulaski, passed away at Lewis Gale Pulaski Community Hospital on Wednesday,October 1, 2014. David was born on November 21, 1938 in Martinsville, Va. to Ward and Sue Spangler.

David graduated Christiansburg High School in 1957 and joined the Air Force. After 20 years of service he retired in June of 1977. During this time he received the following awards: Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding performance with two clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal for outstanding initiative and performance and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Upon retiring from the Air Force he joined Jefferson Mills as a management trainee. Later he was promoted to Director of Sales until November of 1991 when he joined four other management employees at Jefferson Mills in purchasing the company. He was appointed President and CEO of Jefferson Yarns which is a successor of Jefferson Mills in 2006. He remained as CEO until the time of his death.

David was an active member of Max Creek Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Finance Committee.He also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Lewis Gale Pulaski Community Hospital. David graduated from New River Community College in 1984 with a degree in Business Management.

David is survived by wife, Gaynelle Spangler;sister, NancySlusher of Altivista, Va.; son,Anthony David Spangler and his wife Kim of Christiansburg their son, Bradley, and step-daughter, Shae Martin;daughter, Tanya Spangler Rojewski and husband Ron of Wirtz, Va., Tanya’s children Brandon Hall and wife, Cindy and son, Dylan of Norman, Okla., Brian Hall and wife, Celia and daughter, Winnie of Glen Allen, Va . Breanna Reeves and husband Stephen of Christiansburg, Va.; step son, Marc Bishop his wife, Nancy and daughter, Emily of Pulaski, Va., their son, Jeremy Bishop and wife, Elizabeth and their daughte,r Abigail; step son, Brian Bishop and wif,e Kelly and their children, Caroline and Hunter of Pulaski, Va. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ward and Sue Spangler; brother, Kenneth Spangler; and grandson, Rodney Spangler.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014, at Max Creek Baptist Church. Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014at Max Creek Baptist Church.In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Max Creek Baptist Church. Entombment will follow the service at Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin with full military honors. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va.
