Spangler, Alfred E.

Alfred E. “Al” Spangler, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at the Springfield Center in Lindside, WV. Born August 14, 1936, in Rich Creek, VA, he was the son of the late Oren Lee “Togo” and Evelyn Macie Shaw Spangler.

Al was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rich Creek, VA. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served for nearly 20 years. After retirement from the Navy, Al worked at Elmac Incorporated in Rich Creek, VA.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Sue Bernard Spangler and is survived by her son, Craig Sandras and family of Daleville, VA. Al was also preceded in death by two sisters, Euna and Jean Spangler; and one brother, Lewis Spangler. Also surviving is his wife, Linda Trent Spangler of Peterstown, WV; stepson, Robert Janney of Peterstown, WV; stepdaughter, Sherry Janney Miller and husband Jimmy of Bland, VA; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA, with Pastor Kevin Shirey officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Al’s name to the First Baptist Church in Rich Creek, VA (300 Knob Street, Rich Creek, VA 24147) or the Catawba Hospital (5525 Catawba Hospital Dr., Catawba, VA 24070).
