Wright, Henry Roy

Henry Roy (Paw Paw) Wright, 84, of Pulaski, Va., passed peacefully away at his home on Monday, June 2, 2008, surrounded by his family.

He was the son of the late Lee Andrew Wright and Nora Lee Duncan. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Reba Marie Couch Wright. They were both fixtures of their neighborhood and could be found most evenings in the front porch swing. They also shared a love of dancing, family, outdoor activities, and attended Moose Lodge dances in Pulaski and in other areas. Henry was also preceded in death by a sister, Stella Wright; a brother, Harry Wright; and by a grandson, Casey Wright. Henry will be greatly missed by his many friends and loving family.

He held various positions in local, state, and national Moose Lodges where he received many service awards. He retired after 33 years of service to Radford Army Ammunition Plant and then worked at New River Community College until recently as a security guard, which he greatly enjoyed. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and the Korean War being honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps with the rank of Sergeant.

Surviving are his sons, David L. Wright, of Pulaski, and Douglas A. Wright, of Pulaski; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Lynn Burris, of Radford; grandchildren, Jonanthan D. Burris, Kathleen E. Burris, Anjanette Chrisley, and Joshua Clark; great-grandchildren, Victoria and Darren Chrisley; sister, Thelma (Boots) Lawson, of Hampton, Va.; brothers, Dale Wright, of Parrot, Va., and Simon Wright and wife, Betty, of Christiansburg, Va.; and special member of the family, Hailey Marie Dalton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008, from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Joe Grooten officiating. Burial will follow in Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski County, with the Rev. Terry Woodard officiating. Pulaski VFW Post #1184 will conduct the Military Graveside Rites.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, June 4, 2008, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski. The family would like to thank the many caregivers of Medi Home Health & Hospice, Pulaski, Va. and friends and neighbors for their help, food and prayers.
