Nelson, Freida Leeson

Freida Leeson Nelson, 89, of Pulaski, went home to be with her Lord on January 24, 2007 after a short illness at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

She was surrounded by her family as she passed and was reunited with her family in Heaven. She was born October 4, 1917 in the Little Creek Section of Pulaski County on her families farm and was the daughter of the late Annie Banes Leeson and Thomas Jefferson Leeson. After school, she went to work at the hosiery mill in Pulaski, where she met and married Harold Nelson.

After a year of marriage, Harold went off to fight for his country in World War II and was gone for three years. Freida then took a job at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, and when Harold returned from the war they both were hired at Jefferson Mills. Freida retired after 33 years of service.

She was a long-time member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Pulaski. She loved to plant flowers, watch them grow, listen to all types of music, and laugh as often as she could. Most of all she enjoyed the time she spent with her friends and her family, especially her great-grandson Gabe, the apple of her eye.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Nelson after 60 years of marriage; brothers, Vance, Garnet and Harold Thomas Leeson; and her sister, Violet Leeson Williams.

She is survived by her only daughter, Debbie N. Bryant and her husband Carl of Pulaski: two beloved sisters, Aileen Lyons of Pulaski, and Mildred Davis and her husband Ranold of Newbern. She is also survived by two grandchildren, April Gilbert and her husband Jonathan of Anderson, S.C. and Angie and Michael Davidson of Pulaski. She is also survived by a great-grandson, Gabriel Davidson of Pulaski, and many special nieces, nephews, close friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons with the Rev. David Lones officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be anytime Friday after 4 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Flowers will be appreciated, but for those who wish, they may contribute in her memory to the Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O.
