Walter Edgar (Red) Sowers, 96, of Dublin, Va., died on Thursday, March 18, 2010, in New River Valley Medical Center. He was born on October 10, 1913, in Pulaski County, and was the son of the late Martha Ellen Bowers Sowers and George Thomas Sowers.

He was a former long-time employee of Radford Army Ammunition Plant where he served as a foreman, was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church and was on the administrative board, and served as usher for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jo McGee Sowers; sisters, Murlie, Ada, and Stella; brothers, Everet, Johnny, and Ernie; one half brother, George; and two half sisters, Evelyn and Virgie.

He is survived by his god son, Chadwick Walter Nash; and a host of very special nephews and nieces. Uncle Red was loved dearly by his whole family.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Seagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Norman C. Wilhoit officiating. Interment will follow in Thornspring Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 20, 2010, from 5 until 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the Sowers residence, 5867 Powell Avenue in Dublin. Flowers will be appreciated, but for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in “Red’s memory” to the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski.
