Our heavenly Father called home a precious angel on 9 November 2017. Malieta Semones Sowers, 86, of Christiansburg, succumbed to a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

She was born 26 September 1931 in Pulaski County, VA to Victor E. and Lucy D. Semones. She was a devoted wife to the late G. Ordway Sowers for over 46 years.

She is predeceased by her parents and all eight siblings…brothers Victor Semones Jr, Roy Semones, Ida Carr, Fern Patterson, Marie Mussleman, Violet Harris, Betty Hamblin & Mary Robbins.

She is survived by her only child Vic Sowers and his wife Pamela Dyer Sowers of Aiken, SC; two wonderful granddaughters Angela J. Sowers of Warrenton, VA and Sara Sowers of Aiken, SC; and two precious great grandsons Dylan and Chase Covington of Warrenton, VA. She is also survived by her closest nieces who she thought of as daughters…Pam Harris (Willis, VA), Shirley Young (Radford, VA), and Darlene Terry (Abilene, TX). Survivors also include many other nieces, nephews & extended family.

Malieta grew up in Parrott, VA but lived most of her life in Christiansburg. She was a long-time employee of Christiansburg Garment factory. She loved her garden, flowers, cooking & baking. But most of all she loved music and was always ready to dance. She was an active member and officer in the Fraternal Order of Rebekah’s. She cherished being a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Christiansburg and the friendship with all the wonderful members.

To meet Malieta was to know her, to know her was to love her, to love her was to never forget her. Her engaging blue eyes and warm smile assured you of her loving heart and genuine concern for you. Malieta loved her family more than anything in the world and always put them ahead of herself. She will always be remembered by her family and all who knew her. We will miss her dearly but clearly the good Lord needed her by His side.

In lieu of flowers, it would greatly please Malieta and her family if you made a contribution in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association in an effort to find a cure for the insidious disease.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Vest officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Funeral Service.
