Joey Wesley Sowers, 48, of Norfolk, Va., and formerly of Radford, Va., passed away at his home on Saturday, July 17, 2010. Joey was born on October 10, 1961, to Laura “Virginia” Sowers, of Christiansburg and to the late Willie Lee Sowers, of Radford.

In addition to his father, Joey was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Albert “Lee” Sowers and Virgie “Mae” Sowers, of Radford; and maternal grandparents, Samuel Bean and Mabel Terry Bean, of Christiansburg.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Sgt. Joshua Lee Palmer and his wife, Evelyn, of Norfolk; brothers, Gary (Sheila) Sowers, of Dublin, Robert (Susette) Sowers, of Ripplemead, Steven Sowers and Matthew Bryant, of Christiansburg; one sister, Tammie (Marlon) Cox, of Radford; nieces, Brittany (Derek) Kesling, of Pulaski, Hannah Sowers, of Dublin, and Hailea Sowers, of Ripplemead; and nephews, A.J. Sowers, of Christiansburg, and Craig Sowers, of Ripplemead.

Joey was a 1980 graduate of Radford High School. After graduation, Joey joined the Navy. After his service, Joey continued to work on the shipyard based in Norfolk until his death. Joey enjoyed hunting, shooting, fishing, reading and traveling with his job.

He was cremated per his wishes and a Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at DeHaven Park (Harry DeHaven Park) in Pulaski County with Larry Phillips officiating. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
