Sowder Sr., James Lynwood

James Lynwood Sowder, Sr., U.S. Navy Retired, 93, of Meadows of Dan, VA, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2009. He was preceded in death by first wife, Thelma and son, James, Jr.

He is survived by Wife, Virginia B. Sowder; Daughter, Sissy and husband Brad Steckel; Granddaughter, Casey Sowder; Step Daughters: Annette and Orville Holt, Juanita and Joey Fain, and Susan and Steve Arnden; Step Sons: Jimmy and Rita Branscome, Leonard and Debra Branscome, Danny and Lisa Branscome, and Ray Branscome.

Graveside services will be on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 12 Noon at the Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke with Military Honors by the D.A.V. Roanoke with the U.S. Navy Chaplain officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 19, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Activity Department at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows at 16600 Danville Pike, Laurel Fork, VA 24352.
