Southers, Rev. Ed
Rev. Ed Southers, 90, of High Point, went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. He was born April 13, 1918 in Radford, VA, the son of Arthur and Ethel Novel Southers.
He was retired from Furniture World after 40 years of service and was the former Pastor of God’s House Pentecostal Holiness Church in High Point. He enjoyed working in his workshop and was his family’s devoted carpenter. Rev. Southers was a strong-willed Christian, who was a devoted provider for his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 71 years, Doris E. Southers who died September 28; a daughter Doris Ann Clewis; a son, Paul David Southers; three brothers, William Claude Southern, Clifton Southern and Hewsel Southern; four sisters, Mabel Combs, Maudie Loretta Rice, Mary L. Worley and Dorothy Smith.
Survivors include three daughters, Sylvia J. Southers of High Point; Beatrice Vires and husband, Dan of Spencer, VA; and Barbara J. Wright and husband, Donnie of Greensboro; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren and fourteen great great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday at Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel, 976 Phillips Ave, by Pastor Benny Smith, Jr. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home.
