Songer, James E.

James Edward (Eddie) Songer, 55, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007. He was a former employee of Graham-White Foundry in Salem and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army with a tour of duty in Korea. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Marshall Songer and mother, Clarice Holdren Songer.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Crystal Songer, Steven Songer and Ricky Songer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby W. and Fannie Songer of Staffordsville, Va., Jerry and Jill Songer of Christiansburg, Va., Gary and Jean Songer of Blacksburg; sisters and brother-in-law, Norma J. Hall of Christiansburg, Va., Sharon and Leo McMahon of Madison, Wisconsin; the love of his life, Gwen Hairston; stepdaughters, Lavinia and Daphne Hairston; stepson, Clarence Swain, special stepgrandson, Tyrese Hairston and four stepgrandchildren. Several aunts and uncles and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dewey Weaver and the Rev. Henry Haskins officiating.
