Patsy Mason Echols Snider, 68, of Happy Hollow Road, Newport, Va., passed away at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg on Friday, September 25, 2009.

Survivors include her husband, Wilbert Lee Snider; daughter, Susan Elizabeth and husband, Benny E. Dudding; granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Dudding, all of Newport; parents, Robert and Mary Jones Echols; two sisters, Joe Ann and husband, Joe Duncan, and Jane Echols Johnston; mother-in-law, Vergie Fisher; nephews, Jeffrey C. Johnston and wife, Linda, Joel M. Johnston and wife, Heather, Michael J. Duncan and wife, Minerva, and Dale M. Duncan and wife, Shirley; great-nieces, Victoria E. Johnston and Kristen E. Duncan, and Stephanie Skipp; great-nephew, Joseph M. Duncan; brother-in-law, Parker and wife, Sue Snider; and their sons, Willie and Sallie Snider, Jeff and Norine Snider, Clyde and Shelly Snider; and their grandchildren, Page, Zach, Frankie Sue and Marshall, Jody and Derek Snider; also survived by her uncle and aunt, Denny and Virginia Jones.

Pat was an active and lifelong member of Level Green Christian Church which her Echols ancestors helped found in 1836. She sang in the choir, taught nursery school, Bible School, and was a member of the Ladies Circle. After retiring from 34 years at Virginia Tech as head secretary of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering she became active in her family business, W.L. Snider Trucking. Pat served on the nominating committed of the Pembroke Telephone Cooperative and was a life member of the Craig County Historical Society.

Pat was a very giving , understanding, and caring person who never said no to any task or anybody. Her nephews and nieces considered her their “other mother.”

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Level Green Christian Church in Craig Co., Newport, Va., with Minister Mike Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is serving the Snider Family.
