William Wyatt Smith, 85, of Narrows and Roanoke, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Roanoke on February 24, 1917, and was the son of the late Harry Lee and Emma Ella Brown Smith. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a brother, H.L. Smith.

A United States Army veteran, Bill served during World War II. Affectionately known as “Popie,” Bill will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Frances Wheeler Smith; a son, David Michael Robinson and wife Linda; three grandchildren, Donna Robinson Westland, David Michael Robinson Jr. and wife Kathy, and Diana Robinson Smith and husband Collin; seven great-grandchildren, Chase, Emma, Amelia, Anne-Michael, Wyatt, Macy, and Kate; a brother, Leon C. Smith and wife Burma, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, February 9, 2013, in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Mike Woody, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Chapel Saturday from 11 a.m. until just prior to the service.
