Smith, Warren Elwin
Warren Elwin Smith, age 79, of Christiansburg died, Saturday, July 14, 2018. He was born in Lynch Station, Va. on December 8, 1938 to the late T.A. (Chubby) and Nena Wood Smith. Also predeceased by step children, Paul and Michelle.
Warren was a unique person who followed the beat of his own drum. At a a young age, he was fascinated with his grandfather’s railroad watch, when grandpa wasn’t looking, he dismantled the time piece. From there, thus began Warren Smith’s mechanical-electrical-technical career. From his grandfather’s railroad watch, he was self taught, never got any further in school than the eighth grade, he laughingly admitted that he looked forward to going to the bathroom to read or add he refers to it as “The Throne of Knowledge”. His CB handle was “Big Duley”. His call letters in the CB was KCU6853.
In 1968, he was the first CEO of a Ford farm implement tractor dealership in Rensselaer, Indiana. His work history was vast, he started working at a very young age, for Cook Block in Anderson, Indiana. He began his own business at 25 years old, and continued to venture out into new self-owned business, such as full service gas stations in Indiana and Virginia with service bays, marine full service gas station repairing boats and vehicles, tower repair for radio stations, full service parts and repair for lawn mowing equipment, installation of solar power for cabin’s in Virginia, he was given the honor of teaching students at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. In later years, he worked on farm mowing the farm and different facilities. He also owned WESCO Power Products in Christiansburg.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Smith, daughters, Teresa Nyboer and partner, Bob, Tami Stoakes and husband, Jeff, Bambi (Su) Brown and partner, Mark, Phoebe Peterson, grandchildren, Jacki West and husband, Brian, Justin Bolton, Zach Branch, Theresa Stoakes, Kaylee Branch, Alex Stoakes, Leah Stoakes, Jerimiah Brown, Devin, Cressida, Rachael Peterson, great-grandchildren, Aaron, Abby, Joulina, Jackson, Madison, Cadence, Gracie, Dakota, Elaina, Leona, brothers and sisters-in-law, William(Juanita), Winfrey(Sherry),Wayne(Ann).
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
