Tommy M. Smith, 73, of Peterstown, W.Va., passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2010, at Country View Assisted Living in Peterstown. Born on February 16, 1937, at Newport, Va., he was the son of the late Spracher and Ella Sue Williams Smith. In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by four brothers, Gilmer, Raymond, Everette, and Basil “Booker” Smith.

Tommy was a retired electrician for the Celanese Corporation. He enjoyed farming, and was a member of the Rock Camp United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Rene Harvey Smith; one son, Gregory L. Smith, of Pearisburg, Va.; one stepson, Clyde “Butch” Watson, of Lindside, W.Va.; one daughter, Tanya Ball and husband, Eddie, of Wolf Creek, Va.; two stepdaughters, Beverly White and husband, Tommy, of Bluewell, W.Va., and Jackie Pennington and husband, John, of Rock Camp, W.Va.; four brothers, Carmon Smith and wife, Charlotte, of Blacksburg, Va., Jimmy Smith and wife, Zippie, of Salem, Va., Spracher Smith Jr. and friend, Jane, and Bobby Smith and wife, Martha, all of Newport, Va.; five sisters, Maldeen Martin, of Newport, Va., Polly Kanode, of Salem, Va., Reta Donathan, of Shawsville, Va., Ella Collins and husband, Charles, of Pearisburg, Va., and Thelma Jean Bacthelor and friend, Garland, of Dublin, Va.; eight grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at the Rock Camp United Methodist Church, Rock Camp, W.Va., with Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow at the Ellison Cemetery, at Rock Camp. Friends may call from noon until time of services.
