Smith, Shirley Hixon

Shirley Hixon Smith, age 70, of Newport passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Christiansburg, Va. on March 6, 1949 to the late William and Melvie McGuire Hixon. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and Jerry Hixon and sister, Ginger Teague.

Shirley was a member of Newport Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Harry Smith; children, Robert Smith and wife, Shannon, Sandra Christine Smith, Michael Steven Smith and wife, Kimberly; grandchildren, Bryant, Baylee, and Brynna Smith; two brothers, Donald Hixon (Enola), Bobby Hixon (Hazel); sister, Mary Davis; brother-in-law, David Teague; sister-in-law, Tammy Hixon; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 12, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Morris Fleischer officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Thursday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg.
