Samuel Ellis Smith, 54, of Blacksburg, died on Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery. He was born in Radford, Va., on July 11, 1957, and was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Ellis and Goldie Reed Smith.

Sam graduated from Southwest Community College and attended Virginia Tech. He became a partner in the family business, Blacksburg Auto Parts. Sam was a member of the Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

He is survived by two brothers and sister-in-law, W. Sidney and Lisa Smith, of Blacksburg, and David I. Smith, of Palm Springs, Calif.; aunts and uncles, James and Nancy Smith, of Radford, Stanley and Faye Smith, of McCoy, Joyce and Bill Davies, of Longshop, Emma Long, of Salem, Nancy V. Smith, of Christiansburg, Louise Reed, of Dry Branch, Mildred Kovack, of New York, and Martha Reed, of Belspring; special friends, Gwen Richardson and Ruth McCoy; caregiver, Cinda McCoy; numerous other family and friends; and all his special friends at Blacksburg Auto Parts, the New River Dialysis Center, Lewis Gale Montgomery ICU and Friendship Manor.

Memorial Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2011, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary McCoy, Pastor Steven Jumper, and Pastor Shake Smith officiating. The interment will follow at Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Cemetery, McCoy. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and also following the interment.
