Smith, Ronald Lee

Ronald Lee Smith, 61, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Christiansburg, Va. on August 7, 1946.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Smith; grandparents, George and Donna Burwell. He was employed at VPI&SU for 30 years of service. He was a fan of Va. Tech and worked the football games for 27 years.

He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He touched the lives of everyone he met. He attended the Ellett Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Our heartfelt thanks to the church family and all those who stood in prayer.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Smith; his mother, Gaynel Allen, both of Christiansburg; a son, Shannon T. Mills of Christiansburg, one other son and one other daughter; sister, Tanna Newman and fianc�, Thomas Nosse and son, Casey Newman, all of Christiansburg; brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Judy Allen, their daughter, Chassidy Allen and her daughter, Larissa, all of Christiansburg; granddaughter, Nina Abdi of Radford, two other granddaughters; aunt and uncle, Pat and Betty Patrick of Charleston, W.Va.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Jennifer Cook and their son, Matthew Cook of Blacksburg; nieces and nephews, Ashley and Dewayne Allen and daughter, Hannah; special friends, Michelle Abdi, Lizann Epley of Radford, Cricket Hunter and family, Peanut Hunter and family, Noland and Hilda Montgomery, Bea Thompson and her sons, Wayne and Edward Mitchell, and Christopher Peters; cousins, Ray and Elaine Troxel and family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with medical expenses.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 6, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Akers officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg.
