Smith, Nona Louise

Nona Louise Smith, 58, of Newport, departed this life Saturday morning, May 4, 2013 at Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg after a long illness. Born at Wayside near Narrows on July 1, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Carl Pennington and Sylvia Lafon Harless. She was retired from Moog in Blacksburg on disability. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Beverly Irene Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 44 years “Donnie” William Darnell Smith; her son William Jr. “Bubba” Smith (Marsha Wynn) of Newport; her daughter Nona Darnell “Tina” Smith of Newport; her grandchildren Austin Darnell Smith, Kira Mae Smith, and Hailey Nicole Broadwell; her brother Robert “Tinker” Harless (Betty) of Roanoke; her sisters Janice Martin (Jimmy) of Pembroke, Vicky Smith of Roanoke, Jean Buckner (George) of Bedford, Carla Buckner (Kenny) of Calloway, Tweety Beckner (Bugs) of Roanoke; her step-father Holly Cooper of Roanoke, and her many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in the Smith Cemetery on Mt. Lake Road at Newport.
