Smith, Mitzi Davis

Mitzi Marie Davis Smith, age 50, of Hickory, N.C. formerly of Pulaski County left her earthly abode on Saturday, April 20, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 12, 1962 in Radford to Maria Douthat Davis and Joe Davis, Sr.

During her youth, Mitzi was active in horseback riding accompanied by her father, Joe. She was a gifted writer who could have developed the style of Danielle Steel. She finished her training in Wytheville to become a registered nurse in several area hospitals in Roanoke and North Carolina. Due to her schooling, career and raising her children, Mitzi never finished the last chapters of her ongoing novel.

Mitzi is survived by her five children: Wilbur W. Griggs, IV of Roanoke, Reed Stuart Griggs, of Lake Norman, N.C., Rhea Clare Griggs of Richmond, Annie Marie Turner of Wytheville and Ryan Michael Krupnick of Martinsville. Mitzi leaves behind two brothers, Joe Davis, Jr. of Christiansburg and Ben Alexander Davis of Dublin. She is also survived by her parents, Maria Douthat Flinchum of Draper, and her father, Joe Davis, Sr. of Dublin along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 11:00a.m. at Seagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Rorrer officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 5:00p.m to 7:00p.m. at the funeral home.
