Michael Wayne Smith, 41, of Riner, ran through the gates of Heaven to meet his heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Mike was a dispatcher with the Virginia State Police with 18 years of service. Mike will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 21 years, Cindy Smith; and two beautiful daughters, Samantha and Kimberly. He also leaves his mother and father, Bob and Liz Smith; brother and sisterin-law, Tim and Jennifer Smith and their children, Georgia, Lelia, and Sully; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lois and Emory Howard; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Angel and Eddie Underwood and their children, Taylor, Morgan, and Braiden, Missy and Ricky Howell and their children, Matthew, Scottie, and Little Ricky, Sharon and Jimmy Brunner, and their children, Brooke and Madison; a brother-in-law, Dewayne Howard; and very special friends, Peter and Julie Anderson. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the (New) Auburn Baptist Church, 3840 Riner Road, Riner, Va., with Pastor Shake Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia State Police Association, 6944 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, VA 23225 or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 East Sunrise Drive, Tucson, AZ 85714.
