Smith, James Douglas

James Douglas “Doug” Smith, age 62, of Riner, passed away Friday, February 9, 2007 at New River Valley Medical Center from this life to his eternal life. He was born July 24, 1944 to the late James and Hester Jones Smith in Merrimac, Va. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Rebecca D. Smith, and a brother, Ralph Randolph Smith.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle he is survived by his devoted wife, Dianne W. Smith, two daughters, Diane Lynn Smith, Riner, VA, Sarah S. Meredith, Floyd, VA; granddaughters, Ashley N. Smith, Blacksburg, VA, Adrienne R. Smith, U.S. Navy, Brittany L. Meredith, Floyd, VA; grandson, Daniel D Meredith, Floyd, VA; five sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Wanda Smith, Roberta Poff all of Riner, Regina Kiendrith and husband Bobby, Radford, VA, Patty Buchanan of Kingsport, TN,; brothers, Vance Smith and wife, Linda, Michael Smith both of Riner, Ray Smith and wife, Jean, Pilot, VA; a host of Nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 Sunday evening at the Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earnest Fulcher assisted by Mr. Rudolph Shelburne. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, VA.
