Smith, Homer Eugene

Homer Eugene Smith, 72, of Spruce Run Community, Newport, died Monday, December 17, 2012, at his home. He was born in Norris Run November 28, 1940, to the late John Dennie and Mamie Irene Surface Smith. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Charlsie Kanode Hypes Smith; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Hypes Pennington and husband, John, of Prices Fork, Lisa Hypes Sachs and husband, Gordon, of Christiansburg, Darlene Smith, of Pembroke; three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen V. Hypes and wife, Tammy, of Prices Fork, William (Eddie) Hypes and wife, Robin, of Spruce Run, Danny Smith, of Newport; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Hurt, Faye Price, Edith Akers; four brothers, Curtis Smith, Wayne Smith, John Smith, and Larry Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Norris officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. Friends may call any time Wednesday, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
