Ethel Marie Spivey Smith (Granny), 91 of Floyd, went to be with Christ Jesus our Lord on Tuesday evening, May 6, 2014. She was a precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother. Her family sang hymns, held her, and shared with her all that she has meant to us.

Granny was born on November 28, 1922 in Gates County, Eure, North Carolina. She was the fourth born out of five daughters to Oliver and Bessie Spivey.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Faith and Nolen Radford; grandson, Johnny Radford; and sisters, Ruth Perkins, Nell Parker, and Lonford Riddick.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Nila Gray, Betty and Jim Tucker; grandchildren and spouse, Rosie Henninger, Kristy and Keith Bowman, Gary Spence, and granddaughter-in-law, Vangie Radford; great-grandchildren and spouses, Holly and Josh Showalter, Amber Radford, Kayla and Timmy Spencer, Marissa and Patrick Puckett, and Kaylen Bowman; one great great-grandson, Shane Spencer; sister, Ollie Tyler.

Granny was a faithful member of the Floyd Church of the Nazarene where she was loved by everyone. A memorial service to honor and remember Granny on Mother’s Day will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Floyd Church of the Nazarene (beside School House Fabrics) with Rev. Barry Lell and Rev. Steve Robertson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 – 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Floyd Church of the Nazarene – Building Fund, 104 Penn Ave., Floyd, VA 24091.

Granny was a loving and giving person who always gave her best to her family and was loved very much. We will always remember her sweet smile. She is now in Heaven with her loved ones.
