Eloise Q. Smith went home to be with the Lord January 17, 2011, surrounded by her family and beloved childhood friend, Lena Mitchell. Born in Hiwassee, September 6, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William Preston and Essie Owens Quesenberry.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Kirby A. “Jack” Smith; sisters, Frieda Graham, Edith Wilson, Dorothy “Dot” Kirkner and Oneeta “Neet” Coble; brothers, Emmett, Guy, Early and Herbert Quesenberry; grandchildren, Christopher P. Bailey and Jennifer Dawn Phillips; great-grandchildren, Sterling Reed Holbrook and Baby Surkamer.

Mrs. Smith was a Charter Member of Max Creek Baptist Church, a retired Church of God licensed Minister and a faithful member of Roanoke Valley Cathedral of Praise. She touched many lives through her unconditional love, intercessory prayers, mentoring, encouragement and wise counsel. She will be greatly missed by her beloved family and friends.

Surviving are her children and spouses, Joan and Joe Surkamer, Kirby and Dianna Smith, Wanda Brinkley, Carol and J.T. Bailey, and Wayne and Jennifer Smith; grandchildren, Chris and Kelly Brinkley, Adam Brinkley, Brian Smith, Brandan and Jason Holbrook, Joe and Lauren Surkamer, Stephanie and Chris DelCambre, Michael and Sarah Bailey, Angie Fulk, Tara and David McNees, Matthew and Aimee Conner, Nicole Conner, Kristen and Eric Pardue, Michael McCown and Chase Casey; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Reece and Meredith Holbrook, Jack and Lincoln Surkamer, Layla DelCambre, Caden and Chloe Conner, Nissi, Jeru and Lydian Brinkley, Josiah, Evan and Julianne McNees, Brandon and Tanner Phillips, Nathan Fulk; sister-in-law, Margaret W. Quesenberry; honorary daughter, Sherri Bidwell; many nieces, nephews, and beloved extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday January 20, 2011, at Roanoke Valley Cathedral of Praise, 8100, Angel Lane, Roanoke. A graveside service will be conducted noon Friday in Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Roanoke Valley Cathedral of Praise.
