Cora Elizabeth Bishop Smith, 84, of Max Meadows, Va., the Graham’s Forge community, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008. She was born May 4, 1924, in Floyd County, daughter of the late Benjamin and Hettie Akers Bishop.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Meek Bishop Smith Sr., and a granddaughter, Bridget Beaver Weatherman. Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church for 59 years. She prepared many meals during Appalachian Pentecostal Holiness Conferences in Dublin, Va. She was retired from Wythe County Schools.

She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Dreama and Lacy Bowman, of Hillsville, Rejeania and Eddie Archer, of Max Meadows, Karen and Frank Beaver, of Max Meadows, Carnella and Curtis Hopkins, of Max Meadows, and Louise and Charles Hamilton, of Tennessee; three sons and daughters-in-law, M.B. Jr. and Mary Smith, of Wytheville, Clarence Smith, of Max Meadows, and Sherman and Betsy Smith, of Max Meadows; two sisters and brother-in-law, Annie and Bryant Clark, of Wytheville, and Erma Marshall, of Christiansburg; 17 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Kenneth Fogus and the Rev. Mike Ingo officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 8, 2008, from 5 p.m. until service time at the church. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
