Smith, Clara Virginia Kanode

Clara Virginia Smith, 78, of Blacksburg, died on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Kroontje Health Care Center. She was born in Blacksburg, Va., on July 31, 1932, to the late Lewis Singleton Kanode Sr. and Clara Hale Kanode.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, James K. Smith Sr.; a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis Kanode Jr. and Betty Kanode; a sister and brother-in-law, Zenna Kanode Hodge and Pete Hodge; and a brother-in-laws, Maynard Hodge and Curtis Ayers.

She was a long time member of the First Church of God, Blacksburg. Virginia retired from the Virginia Tech Motor Pool.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Bland, of Blacksburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenny Smith, of Roanoke, and Michael and Carolyn Smith, of Blacksburg; six grandchildren, Tara Bland Jones and husband, Darrell, Tim Bland, Kim Alexander and husband, Mark, Amy Nicole Warren and husband, Mike, Brett Smith and wife, Dixie, and Andrew Smith; two great-grandchildren, Cooper Alexander and Aiden Smith; two sisters, Nancy K. Ayers, of Blacksburg, and Hazel K. Hodge ,of Christiansburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2011, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Ansley and Pastor Vince Guerra officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress Street, Blacksburg, VA 24060 or to the Warm Hearth Foundation, 2607 Warm Hearth Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060.

Friends may call anytime after noon on Saturday, July 9, 2011, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg.
