Smith, Charlsie Kanode Hypes

Charlsie Kanode Hypes Smith, age 82, of Newport died, Thursday, February 25, 2016, at English Meadows. She was born in Christiansburg, VA on August 26, 1933 to the late Roman Forest and Ethel Linkous Kanode.

She was also preceded by her first husband, Alva V. (Pete) Hypes, and her second husband, Homer Eugene Smith, brother, Roman F. Kanode, Jr., sisters, Annie Mae Linkous and Hazel Cromer.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Tammy Hypes, Eddie and Robin Hypes; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and John Pennington, Lisa and Gordy Sachs; nine grandchildren, Brady Hypes(Anne), Stephen Hypes(Tanya), Nathan Hypes(Katy), David Hypes(Kristen), Eric Pennington(Jessica), Michael Pennington(Erica), Adam Sachs(Kersten), Brandy Sachs, Brandon Harvey; ten great-grandchildren, Zoey Hypes, Marin Hypes, Lydia Hypes, Wyatt Pennington, Kyra Pennington, Tyce Pennington, Tara Pennington, Rachael Pennington, Reagan Sachs, and Abby Sachs; sisters and brother-in-law, Lois Wright, Joyce Medley(Harold); sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Hypes, Dorothy Hypes, Ruth Hypes, and Polly Kanode.

The family would like to thank the staff of English Meadows Assisted Living of Christiansburg and Good Samaritan Hospice for their care and compassion throughout our mother’s illness. We would also like to thank Dr. Manuel Marrufo and staff for their care and kindness to our mother.

Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Everett Shepherd and Rev. John Tibbs officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W. Blacksburg,VA.
