Smith, Carol Sue

Carol Sue (Susie) Smith, age 61, of Fairlawn, Va., had victory over her cancer, Sunday, January 14, 2007.

She lived with her mother, Dorothy Smith and was preceded in death by her father, Howard Smith; her paternal grandparents, Trigg and Leucetta Smith; and her maternal grandparents, Giles and Allie Morehead.

Surviving are her mother, Dorothy Smith, Fairlawn; four aunts, Fleta Dowdy, Margaret Smith, Edith Jamison and Bernica Johnston; one uncle, Russell Dowdy, and numerous cousins.

She was a graduate of Dublin High School and New River Community with an associates degree in accounting. For the last 12 years, she was the manager of the Bookstore on the campus at New River Community College in Dublin, Va. She also worked for many years at the Wallace Bookstore off the campus of Radford University.

Carol was a faithful member of the Fairlawn Baptist Church where she served as Deacon for many years. She was a member of the Fairlawn Baptist Church Choir and served in many other capacities.

Memorial services will be held at the Fairlawn Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2007 with Pastor Danny W. Collins and the Rev. Jerry Dowdy officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.

Friends, family, and church family may share in visitation at the Fairlawn Baptist Church, 6758 Oxford Avenue in Fairlawn from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2007. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fairlawn Baptist Church Debt Retirement Fund. Arrangements by DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford.
