Brenda Couch Smith of Newport, Virginia passed away peacefully in her home on January 25, 2024. Born to the late Bonnie and Farley P Couch on November 11, 1942 in Turkey Toe, Kentucky.

She moved to Mountain Lake in 1952 and graduated Giles High School in 1962. She worked for 30 years at Electro Tech and retired in June, 2005.

Brenda’s zest for life was evident in her love for simple pleasures. She was an avid bingo player, her laughter and cheer filling the halls every game night. Her keen intellect shone brightly as she skillfully solved crossword puzzles. Brenda’s joy was palpable when she spoke of the times she spent at the Newport Fair, a tradition she cherished deeply. Her presence was a gift to those who knew her, and her absence will be felt deeply in the community of Newport. Her warm spirit, hearty laughter, and the twinkle in her eye when she shared stories of her adventures at the fair will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her ex-husband. Paul Smith; brother, Billy J. Couch, nephew, Allan Couch; sister Glenda and husband, Graydon Shrader.

Left to cherish her memory to their hearts are her son, Timothy Smith and wife Beth; grandson, Zachery Smith and wife, Tiffany Nicole Havens; granddaughter, Tiffany Paige Smith, and fiancé, Christopher Sheets; special granddaughter, Haylee Starkey; great-grandchildren, Addison, Weston, and Emerson Smith; special great-grandchild, Rayland Harvey; sister, Linda Gail and husband Caryie Caldwell; sister-in-law, Jean Couch; special friend, Hassel Miller; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

There will be a funeral service conducted Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Poff officiating. Funeral services will conclude in the Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley in Blacksburg, VA. The family will receive friends in a time of visitation on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel.
