Smart, Elwood Charlton

Elwood Charlton Smart, 79, of Radford, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013. He was retired from C & S Door. Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ethel Gallimore Smart. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Virginia (PeeWee) K. Smart of Radford; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael D. Smart of Radford and wife, Nancy Smart of Charlotte, NC, and Phillip and Theresa Smart of Radford; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Troy Hill of Powhatan; grandchildren Tanner Smart and wife Samantha, Tye Hill, Luke Hill and Kelsey Smart; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Bernice Smart of Belspring; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy McCoy of Christiansburg, Melita Boyd, Dolly Hedge, and June and Forrest Dobbins, all of Radford, and Shirley and Pierce Crabtree of Bluefield; and brothers-in-law and their spouses, Ralph and Etta Kenley of Christiansburg, and Richard and Linda Kenley of Radford. The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Haven Assisted Living and Carilion NRV Hospice for the gentle and loving care they provided Elwood. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. John Lemasters officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Elwood’s memory to Oak Haven Assisted Living, 323 Webbs Mill Road, Floyd, VA 24091 to assist in providing their excellent care for those in need.
