Freeman Maurice “F.M.” Slusher, Jr., passed away on October 16, 2018, at his home. F.M. was predeceased by his parents, Freeman Maurice and Ruth Gardner Slusher. He was the youngest of 50 grandchildren of George William and Clemmie Corn Slusher.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Whitlock Slusher; sons Joey, of Christiansburg, Va., and Logan and his wife Chelsea, of Winchester, Va; grandchildren, Austin, Caleb and Kinley; sisters, Nancy Hanley, of Wilmington, De., and Janet Keith, of Willis, Va.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald McLane “Mac” and Priscilla Whitlock, of Floyd; sisters-in-law, Shari Radford, of Floyd, and Anita and husband Ashley Wimmer, of Rocky Mount; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A lifelong farmer, F.M. took great pride in his cattle and in doing quality farm work, not only for himself, but also for friends and neighbors. Even as his physical pain limited his activity, he enjoyed being out on his tractor or in his pickup truck. F.M. enjoyed sharing a laugh with all whom he knew; he always had a ready joke or story to tell.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 2 pm at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Hebron Quesenberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Burial Ground. Family will receive friends from 7 pm to 9 pm, Sunday, October 21, 2018, at Maberry Funeral Home.
