Dorothy Ratcliffe Slusher, 85, of Pearisburg, Va., passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Slusher was born on February 6, 1925, in Giles County, and was a daughter of the late Lacy Len and Hazel Davis Ratcliffe. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Slusher; one son, Randy Slusher; and daughters, Mona Sue Slusher and Becky Slusher; four brothers, Jack, Vivian, Harvey and Jerry Ratcliffe; and four sisters, Polly Clyburn, Fannie Meredith, Lena Fay and Patty Ratcliffe. Dorothy spent many years baby-sitting many, many children. They were her extended family. She is survived by one son, Dusty Slusher and his wife, Pat, of Salem; two daughters, Mary Lou Slusher, of Rich Creek, and Rosa Slusher, of Pearisburg; three grandchildren, Chris, Mike and Jordan Slusher, three sisters, Mary Jane Bartley, of Pearisburg, Betty Eads, of Pearisburg, and Martha Dunn, of Pearisburg; two brothers, Lacy and John Ratcliffe, of Pearisburg. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Allen Woodie officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will gather at the home of Betty and Tom Eads at 115 Easley St. in Pearisburg.
