She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Valentine (K.V.) Sloop, of Towson, MD; her parents, Arthur and Mary Price, of Newport; her sister, Dorothy Kinzie, of Newport; her brother Harry Price, of Gulfport, MS; her brother James Price, of Newport; and her nephew Gerald Kinzie, of Newport.

Edith is survived by her nephews, J.D. Price (Cory) of Christiansburg, VA; Billy Kinzie (Clara) of Newport, VA; and Joe Price of Columbia, SC; and her nieces, Melanie Rader (Brian), of Blacksburg, VA; Sharon Macintosh (John), of Columbia, SC; and Kelly Price, of Columbia, SC. She also has numerous nieces and nephews from the Sloop family of whom she was very fond.

Edith graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University with a degree in education. She went on to teach for many years in schools in Virginia and Maryland. While teaching at her first school in Burkes Garden, VA, she met her future husband, K.V. Sloop, the principal of the school. They were married on June 20, 1943. They later moved to New Market, VA and then settled in Towson, MD where they lived for many years working in the Baltimore County School System. Edith furthered her education by getting a degree in guidance counseling from Loyola College. She enjoyed her students and impacted many lives through her work in education.

Edith loved to be on the go. She never met a stranger and was always ready for a trip or a meal out. She loved meeting new people. She was generous and outgoing and had a way of bringing people together, as those who lived on Talbott Ave. can attest. She hosted game nights and potlucks, anything to get people together. She always looked forward to attending the annual Sloop family reunion and was often the life of the party. She loved flowers, particularly geraniums and impatiens, and she loved her cat. She also enjoyed reading, and singing in the choir. Any choir. She was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Towson, MD until she moved to Blacksburg in 2002 to be closer to her family. She also volunteered countless hours at Johns Hopkins Medical Center and at the Assistance Center of Towson Churches. She dearly loved her volunteer work and all the people she was able to meet. After moving to Blacksburg, she attended Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and continued her life of service by volunteering at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was fiercely independent and lived alone for the last 43 years of her life, managing her own affairs and always taking the stairs, never the elevator.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 12 pm at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Blacksburg with the Rev. Bill King officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley, Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 11 am to 12 pm prior to the service at the church.
