amem_lake-pier.jpgVicki Sue Harmon Slaughter, 73, of Draper, passed away peacefully September 4, 2014 at Lewis Gale Hospital in Pulaski. She was born August 1, 1941 in Kimball, WV, she was the only child of Harvey Ballard Harmon and Rachel Victoria Barlow, growing up primarily in McDowell County and graduating in 1959 from Meadow Bridge High School in Fayette County, WV.

She attended (then) Concord College and studied music education. In addition to being a homemaker, Vicki worked in a variety of settings throughout her life, most recently as substitute administrative support staff at the Pulaski County School Board Office.

Vicki made an impact wherever she was with her laughter, intelligence and keen sense of humor. The many friends and loved ones she has left in this area are a testament to that. Her hobbies included piano, cooking, needlecraft and photography as well as a love for Claytor Lake, where she spent much of her life.

Vicki is survived by four children: Susan Baker Slade of Pulaski, Amy Beth Baker of Green Acres, FL, Katie Baker Belton of Princeton, WV and Ballard R. (B.R.) Slaughter of Dublin. In addition, her family wishes to acknowledge Lynn Mitchem of Green Acres, FL and Ashley Edwards of Draper as honorary daughters. Her grandchildren include Steven Vestal and Nicholas Belton, both of Princeton, WV, Jamie Slade of Pulaski and Eligh Slaughter of Draper. Vicki shared a special bond with her pets throughout her life; her devoted dogs Charlotte and Spud also survive her.

Her family wishes to deeply thank the devoted and attentive staff at LewisGale Hospital in Pulaski who cared for her during the last month. Their compassion throughout the last weeks have been a great comfort to “Ms. Vicki” and to her family.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2014 AT 2:00 P.M. AT SEAGLE FUNERAL HOME.  VISITING WILL BE HELD AT THE FUNERAL HOME ON SATURDAY THE 11TH FROM 1 P.M. UNTIL 2 P.M.
