Ruth was an amazingly creative and thoughtful person, whose memory is sustained by her acts of kindness and hospitality. In her fifty-plus years of life in Ashland, she was active in First Baptist Church, Ashland, The Henry Clay Women’s Club, Sheltering Arms’ Lunch Bunch, and many community activities. She was a gracious host, a `dabbling artist’, a passionate homemaker, and an advocate for ‘the least of these’. As Blacksburg became her home, she was embraced and cared for by community at Glade Church.

A celebration of her amazing life will be held at First Baptist Church, 800 Thompson St., Ashland, Va. at 3 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2008 with the Revs. Kelly M. Sisson and Robert Thompson officiating. The family will receive visitors at Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, Ashland, Va. from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008. At her request, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to: Glade Church, 1600 Glade Rd., Blacksburg, Va., 24060. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home.
