William Dyer Simpson, 90, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on October 16, 2018. Bill was born on January 19, 1928 to Willie Bryan Dyer and J. Rufus Simpson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Linda; and siblings Jean Raper, and Albert, Leon, Hugh and J.R. Simpson. He is survived by his sons, Bryan Simpson and Bob Turner (Mary); daughter, Barbara Simpson (John Thomas); son-in-law, George; and sisters, Joyce Niles and Sarah Atkins (Charlie); grandchildren, Adam Turner (Jane), Ted Turner (Sandy), April Harris (Chad), Kyle Babbish (Stacey), and John Simpson (Heather); nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Bill is also survived by his special friend of twenty-two years, “Sweetie Jean” Peters.

A bit of a wanderer in his earlier days, Bill found a permanent home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. He loved walking wherever there was a view and, as he put it, “climbing the Buffalo.” He worked for the stock market, sold tires, owned a Montgomery Ward store and was a Highlights Magazine representative before finding his calling as a chimney sweep. Many of his customers became friends and he was known to pose for photos in a top hat and tails.

At his request, there will be no service. Those wishing to may donate to Silent Unity by mail (Silent Unity, 1901 NW Blue Parkway, Unity Village, MO 64065-0001) or online (unity.org/prayer).
